Parking in New Orleans
The Department of Public Works Parking Division manages the on-street (curb space) parking in New Orleans. The safety measures enforced by this department include ticketing and towing violating vehicles, immobilizing vehicles, and towing abandoned vehicles. This division is also responsible for establishing and managing residential parking zones throughout the City.
The city has modernized many of its parking meters, and some now accept credit cards and dollar bills which provides a printed receipt which you can place on your car dashboard while parked.
Parking is prohibited at meters in designated rush hour zones from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Please read the meters before you park! Also know that broken meters are not free passes. They are technically off-limits and could land you a ticket!
While parking in the city, always remember the rule: Read parking signs very carefully. The rules applicable in one area might not be the same in any other area.
